MA Department of Fish and Wildlife Headquarters

The new MassWildlife field Headquarters - with a total project budget of $23.7 million - is one of three projects selected from among over 80 planned projects to become the first public sector zero net energy building in Massachusetts.
During early designing, Stephen Moore looked to engage the site with its east-west orientation by stacking the private programs in need of day-lighting along the south face. The public programs would lay in between and behind in a linking atrium overlooking the wildlife preserve to the north. Water strategies carry through the building bringing the outside in while at the same time cleaning its grey water. A vegetated roof would be provided for the upper programs to enjoy the outdoors directly.
Recommended renewable on-site energy sources include a 200 kW solar photo voltaic array capable of producing approximately 300,000KWh per year, plus a ground source system providing efficient heating and cooling.
The program will accommodate 120 staff in a state-of-the art office building with ample meeting, support and storage space. This program includes a 150-person flexible multi-purpose room, two 50-person classrooms, conference rooms, a reference library, and a variety of laboratories.
